Passed RES on First Attempt, Nov 2013. Ready to quit my job of 3 years. Graduated from SMU. I'm a fast learner, adaptable to uncertainty, always eager to learn and believes in starting from scratch, i have high expectations but i'm realistic based on circumstances. Seeking knowledgeable, sincere, genuine, warm & humble, down-to-earth mentor to hold my hand and kickstart me. I want a mentor who is not able to teach me tricks & trades about real estate business itself as a property agent, but also as a close friend to discuss about multiplying one's assets in the future. Wow, sounds a like a dream mentor! But i hope i'll find one though! Doesn't matter which agency, because i follow a good mentor. Doesn't matter which sector (eg Residential, Commercial, Landed, Rental etc), because i follow the market. Please feel free to contact me! emails preferred because i won't be able to pick up calls during my working day. Thank you so much!

Hi Jayson,
Thank you for your interest on in a career in the Real Estate industry.
It is a great start to come into the industry with the right mindset as THIS is the first step to your future success! Coming into the industry with a background in Performance Coaching and Psychology, I have noticed that the top performers in the industry ALWAYS come in with a strong sense of independence and self responsibility.
A very fascinating observation in this domain for newbies is that the most successful newbies are those who speak with 3 or fewer agency leaders. Those that speak with many to find the "best" fit for themselves then to place a higher degree of reliance on the mentor to "deliver" them that success, hence, they struggle.
There is an interesting aspect to your conversation that you have brought up which I have not written about before.
You have asked about,"...Multiplying your assets in the future..."
This is a deep seated question which ultimately lies at the heart of the agency culture.
Let me explain. Real Estate is a means to an ends, and never an ends in itself. Thus the key here really is about the networks that you meet and the resources that the Division bring to your disposal as a collective. Our Division Director has a very holistic and somewhat visionary approach to the business.
His mandate to his team leaders is,"Build the division, and I will build the conglomerate".
Our division within Huttons is a shared leadership and training function that is managed by the team leaders, whilst at the same time our Director manages sourcing for, and procuring additional business ventures and alternative income alternatives which are offered to us as potential investments.
Going hand-in-hand with that also is the working relationship timeline. In CLMD, we take a 10 year time horizon perspective for our associates. BOTH in financial and skills set terms. In a 5-10 year time horizon, a new associate will acquire sales, negotiation, marketing, networking, leadership, management skills, and of course amass a degree resources along the way.
Over that period of time, should the team leaders and directors consider a venture start up and build a new enterprise, who would you think will likely be the investors and the potential directors?
That is the extent of the farsighted vision that frames our training and team work within the division.
If this is a philosophy that catches you interest, let's have coffee in the evening and speak more!
